What we are proposing
Biodiversity Net Gain is a new approach that is being developed to contribute to the recovery of nature while developing land. It is making sure the habitat for wildlife is in a better state than it was before development.
The Council has produced a Biodiversity Net Gain Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). The SPD provides guidance to developers, planning applicants and Borough residents on which developments in Fareham will need to provide 10% minimum Biodiversity Net Gain and which developments would not. The guidance explains the expectations of the Council as to where and how qualifying development should provide BNG and how it is to be secured, managed and monitored for the minimum period required.

Consultation on the Biodiversity Net Gain SPD took place over a six-week period from Monday 17th April – Tuesday 30th May 2023. A total of 17 comments were made on the documents from members of the community, statutory bodies, and the development industry.

The Council has since read and considered each comment and is working on a revised draft of the SPD. More information on the SPD will follow when available.
