What we are proposing

We’re looking at the possibility of introducing an additional seasonal dog exclusion zone at Hill Head during the winter months to safeguard protected birds.

Hill Head experiences a high number of bird disturbance events, with 80% of these related to a dog’s presence or behaviour.

A restriction on dogs between 1 October and 31 March, within a designated seasonal exclusion zone at Hill Head, is therefore proposed.

The area would be added to the current Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) so that Officers can ensure that the zone is adhered to.

Dogs would still be able to walk on the promenade with or without a lead, the bird refuge only applies to the beach itself.

We Did

The Executive Member for Health and Public Protection agreed the making of the draft Public Spaces Protection Order on the 20th June 2023. The report can be found in the link above.
